This week, the reconstruction of the walls of the Paseo de la Fossa and its paving after the damage caused by storm Gloria will begin.

The work consists of repairing and renovating the sections of pavement damaged by the storm, as well as demolishing the loose sections of wall and rebuilding them. The reconstruction of a 5-meter section of the masonry wall is also planned.

This work, which has a budget of 118,383 euros, will be carried out continuously, except on Sundays until 15 July, when it will be interrupted so as not to disturb the most popular tourist dates, and will resume in September.

The reconstruction plan should have been implemented months ago, but the arrival of the pandemic and the suspension of the tendering procedures due to the decree on the state of alert have delayed the whole process.

On the other hand, work on rebuilding access to La Fossa beach will continue until 3 July. This work will be carried out by the Dirección General de la Costa y el Mar through its Provincial Coastal Service in Alicante. The City Council and "Costas" have agreed to stop work on 3 July so as not to impede access to the beaches.

The work, which has a budget of 115,840.91 euros, consists of rebuilding the various accesses to the beach, in compliance with the parameters of accessibility and what is established in the Coastal Law. In addition to these measures, the Coastal Service will carry out other repairs in the municipality, especially on the existing wooden accesses to the Arenal Bol and Calalga beaches, which were also damaged by the effects of the storm in mid-January.
