For some time now, the municipality of Calp has been preparing a traffic ordinance which, for the first time, regulates the traffic of so-called passenger mobility vehicles, i.e. vehicles with one or more wheels, for a single person driven by electric motors with a speed between 6 and 25 k/h, in the municipality of Calp. This regulation has already been amended during the plenary session and in accordance with the necessary administrative procedures and will enter into force on 14 August.

The regulation stipulates that these vehicles can generally travel on the road and not on the pavements, in parks or on footpaths, with the sole exception of persons with reduced mobility who use electric wheelchairs.

The use of this type of vehicle for commercial purposes is also regulated. These vehicles may not exceed six vehicles and must be accompanied by a guide, and their routes and timetables must be expressly approved by the Town Hall.

The regulation stipulates that they may drive on roads with a maximum speed of 30 km/h and in residential areas with a maximum speed of 20 km/h.

It is absolutely forbidden to park these vehicles on the pavements; they must be parked in the spaces reserved for bicycles or motorcycles and it is forbidden to chain them to trees, traffic lights or any street furniture. In any case, these vehicles must comply with traffic and safety regulations; drivers must wear a helmet and carry technical documentation and have civil liability insurance.

The minimum age to drive is 16 years, although minors under 16 years of age may also drive with a moped driving licence. The regulation sets out three types of infringement (from driving more than one person to driving on the pavement or negligent driving among others) and three types of fines, ranging from €750 to €3,000 depending on the type of infringement.
