Work began this week on rebuilding the walls of the Paseo de la Fossa and the pavement destroyed by the storm. While the Dirección General de la Costa y el Mar, through its Provincial Coastal Service in Alicante, is responsible for the reconstruction of the beach accesses, the City Council is in charge of repairing the promenade.

The work consists of repairing and restoring the sections of paving damaged by the storm, as well as demolishing the loose sections of wall and rebuilding them. There are also plans to rebuild a 5-metre-long wall. The City Council will also replace the current railing on the Paseo de la Plaza Colón with a stainless steel railing.

This work, which has a budget of 118,383 euros, was suspended in July so as not to disturb the city during the periods of greater tourist traffic. The work is expected to be completed before October.

The reconstruction plan should have been implemented shortly after the storm, but the arrival of the pandemic and the suspension of the tendering procedure due to the state of alert delayed the whole process, which was halted again in the middle of the summer season to avoid inconvenience.
