The plenary session of Calp Town Council, held on Monday, dealt with the proposal by the PP and Ciudadanos political groups to urge the regional government to carry out the Covid19 tests for the educational community. Specifically, the PP spokesperson, Paco Avargues, said that "these are repeated tests for the staff of the education centres".
Defendamos Calpe's spokesperson, Paco Quiles, tabled an amendment that would require the city to carry out the tests while waiting for the regional government to do so. Ximo Perles of Compromís, for his part, added: "I do not agree with either the proposal or the amendment; the City Council itself does not carry out the tests for its staff, I do not think it is right because it could interfere with the existing protocols". The Socialist spokesman, Santos Pastor, said that "if the City Council itself does not test its staff, it seems incongruous to ask another administration to do so for its officials and we know that the tests are useful".
Ana Perles, the City Councillor for Personnel, said: "On the one hand, there are the tests for the staff that will be purchased shortly and another thing is the protocol that will be applied if a test is positive. This is handled by the Salud Pública team". The item was adopted with the votes of the ruling political groups.
Another issue raised in the plenary session was the proposal by the PP and Ciudadanos to urge the City Council to admit a nurse to the schools. A similar proposal was also made by Defendamos Calpe to have the City Council, in collaboration with other administrations, introduce the figure of the nurse in every school in the municipality.
Neither Compromís nor the PSPV-PSOE supported the proposal as "the Covid actions are recorded and the schools are linked to the health centre in question. There is no point in having a nurse in every school, because if there is a case, the health centre will intervene immediately," explained Santos Pastor. Ximo Perles, for his part, added that "in this context of limited economic and human resources, the health worker must work in the health centre". The proposal by the PP and Ciudadanos was adopted by the government groups and the proposal by Defendamos Calpe was rejected.
In addition, the Ciudadanos group, through the intermediary of Councillor Rebeca Merchán, presented a proposal asking for the strengthening of institutional coordination and cooperation to increase effectiveness in the fight against the illegal occupation of property, particularly between the local police, the State security forces and corps (Guardia Civil) present in the municipality and, where appropriate, the Autonomous Police or the CNP unit in the Autonomous Community of Valencia, as well as with the judicial administration, in order to ensure rapid action against occupations which threaten the security and coexistence of citizens
The proposal calls on the Spanish Government and the Spanish Parliament to press ahead with all the legal reforms needed to defend private property, to ensure the cohabitation and security of citizens and to combat illegal occupations of homes.
The Mayor, Ana Sala, pointed out that "at least four cases of occupations have taken place in Calp, including the occupation of the Casal d'Ifac - a plot of land at the entrance to the Penyal d'Ifac Natural Park, owned by the Generalitat Valenciana".
