The Calp City Council has just awarded the paving and lighting works for the D7 road, which begins on Avenida Diputación and ends on a street in the Benicolada district. The opening of this road is crucial to the start of work on the pedestrian bridge over the N332, as it will provide an exit for the area's neighbours, whose current access will disappear with the construction of the pedestrian bridge.

The planned road will be 6 metres wide and 163 metres long, divided into 112 metres of newly constructed road and 51 metres of newly designed road. The planned works will ensure an improvement in accessibility compared to the current situation, as they include pavements and pedestrian crossings and LED lights. The works have been awarded to the company in the works and projects category for €100,126 and must be completed before the end of the year.

The importance of this road is that its execution is a sine qua non for starting work on the desired pedestrian bridge over the N332. In November last year, the Ministerio de Fomento awarded the bridge works with a budget of €1.1 million.

The Ministry's project includes the construction of lanes with speed changes and the construction of the pedestrian bridge, which will facilitate the connection between the residential area and the railway station with the town of Calp. However, the work of the pedestrian bridge will mean the abolition of the current access to the residential areas of Benicolada; it is therefore essential to implement this new road, the entrance and exit to the neighbours from the Avenida Diputación.

In 2015, the Town Council completed the acquisition of the 5,176.78 square metres of land needed to build this work, which has long been demanded by the municipality, as it will allow residents to cross this road for pedestrian access from the city to the railway station and the residential area of Oltà, thereby eliminating one of the most dangerous points in the municipality.
