Coinciding with the Christmas holidays, the City Council for Equality has launched a campaign to raise awareness of the need to remove sexist and violent content from many games and toys, contributing to the development of attitudes and behaviours of cooperation, respect for differences and equal relationships between girls and boys.

The campaign consists of the distribution of three posters, each with different messages and the same motto, which will be published on social networks during this month and at the beginning of January to make visible the importance of the game or toy we give away, as it is in our hands to contribute to emotional and social development and break stereotypes.

Equality invites reflection on the distinction between girls and boys in toys and reminds us of the importance of play for children's emotional and social development, as through this activity they learn to respect the world they live in and the people who live in it, in addition to playing as equals and building relationships of affection and love.

For all these reasons, it is emphasised that games are gender-neutral and therefore not exclusive to girls or boys; that there is a diversity of colours, as there is a diversity of people, and it is recommended that toys should be age-appropriate, non-violent, promote cooperation and teach equality, among other advice.

Similarly, it is advisable to avoid toys that establish roles, sexualise childhood or harm the environment.
