This week the demolition works of the old building of the Gargasindi Special School, which is part of the Edificant Plan and cost €148,882, were completed. The demolition of the old building is a necessary step to carry out the extension works of the centre, which are in the tendering phase.

Back in 2017, the City Council offered the Valencian Ministry of Culture two possible sites to proceed with the expansion of this centre: The City Council offered, on the one hand, the plot of 3,600 M2 located next to the Silene d' Ifac nursery school and, on the other hand, a plot of 2,610 square metres built next to the Gargasindi Comprehensive School facilities (the old Virgen de las Nieves nursery school), which would bring the total expansion of facilities to 5,055 square metres.

After an analysis of the possibilities and at the request of the centre's management, it was decided that the school would remain in its current location and its facilities would be supplemented by those of the old kindergarten, whose building was also demolished.

The Gargasindi Public Special School in Calp was founded in September 1980 as a resource and care centre for children with severe and permanent educational needs in the Marina Alta region. Over the years and in response to the needs of the area, pupils from Marina Baixa were also integrated. The centre has about 80 pupils with very different special educational and permanent needs.
