Work has already begun on repairing the access to Cala Calalga, one of the most frequented coves in the municipality. Its proximity to the Paseo Marítimo makes it easy and busy to access, as there is a masonry staircase and a nearby road supported by a breakwater wall.
However, the erosion produced on the rocky slope of the cove by the action of the waves during the storm of January 2020 has caused the crown of the cove to overhang and certain areas have even broken off due to their own weight, damaging the upper road. Successive storms have aggravated the situation of the slope.
For this reason, and to guarantee the safety of users, the Town Council has begun the repair work, which will consist of building a limestone breakwater wall whose foundations will be filled with concrete. The construction of the wall will be preceded by the cleaning and cutting of the cantilevered area at the top of the slope, as well as the demolition of the layers of road surface above it.
On the other hand, as for the access staircase, which is badly damaged, the existing masonry and concrete structure will be demolished and replaced by a wooden structure anchored to the natural ground with anchor plates.
The works have been awarded for 112,700€ to Vías y Obras Aitana and have a completion period of two months. The mayoress pointed out that "the Town Hall is currently completing projects that were started in the previous legislature, our priority is to keep the town in good condition, and we will continue to work to ensure that this is the case".
On the other hand, work begins today on the asphalting of Calle Llavador de la Font, located in the area around the bus station, which means that access to the bus terminal station will be closed today and tomorrow. Alternative stops have been set up for both the regular bus service and school bus lines.
