The main item on the agenda for tomorrow's ordinary plenary session is the approval of the basic and execution project for the new secondary school at a cost of €12,313,569.84.

The project, drawn up by the architects Miguel San Juan and Pablo Peñín, proposes an L-shaped centre around a public square. Three spaces are established: the one for the vocational training classrooms, the secondary and baccalaureate classrooms and the administration area and multi-purpose rooms (cafeteria, library, etc.), so that each of these spaces can be accessed independently. It is a longitudinal piece to adapt to the orography of the plot characterized by a significant slope, so the centre is organized with steps respecting the environment and creating a pleasant visual impact.

On each level are located the 3 entrances with porch to the school and the playground and sports area. The playground is accessed from the platform by adapted routes and a staircase. The gym is located in the lowest area to reduce the impact of its height. The rest of the sports area is also located at the lowest level and has changing rooms, toilets and storage rooms that connect directly with the gymnasium. The large trees are located to the south of the school, embracing the whole complex.

A series of ramps connect to the platforms and allow architectural barriers to be overcome. The slopes allow for half-level viewpoints, separate the urban orchard area and at the same time provide a grandstand over the tracks.

The programme of requirements is developed in 3 functional units, 20 for secondary and 6 for baccalaureate. On the first floor are located the high school classrooms and on the ground floor the secondary education (ESO) classrooms. In the teaching rooms are distributed the complementary classrooms, computer, music, workshop as a support of the first ones in several levels oriented to the courtyards. The administration area is located next to the Hall. Next to the kitchen is the services and facilities area.

For the training cycles, a building with independent access but formally linked to the centre is planned. At the entrance there is the caretaker's office and the AMPA offices that lead to the vocational training area and to the baccalaureate and secondary school. The multi-purpose room and the cafeteria are located next to the entrance. They are organised in such a way that it is possible to extend the room on special occasions by incorporating the cafeteria itself.

The new centre will be built on a municipal plot of 16,251.16 m² in the Gargasindi industrial estate and will have a useful built area of 9,344 m² and a further 8,365 m² of outdoor area with sports courts, a play area and a school garden. This work is part of the Pla Edificant of the Generalitat Valenciana.

The draft of this project was presented to the school community a few months ago and a period for contributions was established. Once the project has been approved in the plenary session of the Town Council, the aim is to speed up all the deadlines so that the second school can become a reality as soon as possible.

The councillor for education, Mariola Mulet, stressed that "this is one more step in a project that has been very complicated and lengthy over time, despite how necessary it is. We are going to speed up all the administrative procedures as this is a priority for the government. I would like to thank the families and teachers for their patience, and we hope that the new IES will be a reality very soon".
