The Department of Culture has already published the rules for the 4th Street Decoration Contest in the Historic Centre as part of the 8th edition of Art al Carrer 2024. This year the theme of the Contest is "Fishermen´ Calpe", with this project is added to the commemoration of the centenary of the Fishermen's Guild.
The Contest is aimed at local associations and entities, the aim is to encourage local participation in an artistic activity that adorns emblematic areas of the Old Town for the enjoyment of citizens and visitors.
All associations and entities registered in Calpe can participate and each of them will be assigned a street or space to decorate by drawing lots. The material necessary for the artistic creation will be provided by each association. In order for all participants to compete on equal terms, the spaces provided for the artistic display will have a similar morphology, adapting, however, to the nature of the streets. All the exhibition points for the artistic creations, a total of 18 streets, will be located in the historic centre of Calpe.
Once the space has been allocated by lottery, each association will present a draft of the project. The choice of materials is free as long as they are removable at the end of the exhibition and do not damage the façades, balconies or other elements and do not generate annoying noises for the neighbourhood.
The prizes amount to a total of 6000 €, 3000 € for the first prize winner, 2000 € for the second prize winner and 1000 € for the third prize winner, and will be awarded on the basis of the artistic value of the work, its originality, the technique used, the association's capacity for artistic creation, the use of recycled materials that show a commitment to the environment, adaptability to the assigned space, weather resistance, and the use of materials that do not create noise nuisance to the neighbourhood.
