The Maite Boronat Occupational Center, located in Calpe, currently serves users from eight municipalities in the Marina Alta and Baixa regions. This center provides specialized care and daily support to people with functional diversity, promoting their personal development, autonomy, and social integration.
The transport service that enables the daily travel of users falls under the responsibility of the Conselleria of Social Welfare of the Generalitat Valenciana. However, the Conselleria delegated the processing of the transport service contract to the Calpe City Council, with administrative management handled by the municipal technical services to facilitate its execution.
At this time, the funding allocated by the Conselleria is insufficient to cover the actual cost of transportation, given the distance between the different municipalities and the time required to complete the route. The first tender went unawarded, and the City Council put the contract up for bidding again, despite being aware of the existing budgetary limitation. What would technically require two separate routes (one from Marina Baixa to Calpe, and another from the rest of Marina Alta to Calpe) has been combined into a single one due to the lack of sufficient available credit.
The City Council wants to convey a message of transparency and understanding to families, reminding them that the right to transportation is established by the Conselleria, and that this administration is ultimately responsible for guaranteeing its funding and provision.
The Councilor for Social Welfare, Itziar Doval, has stated that "From the Calpe City Council we are fulfilling the assignment received from the Conselleria, managing the contracting of the service. Our commitment is to continue working so that the users coming from other municipalities in the region can access the Maite Boronat Occupational Center. It is necessary for the Conselleria to review the funding to ensure a dignified and sustainable service."
