The play "Un espíritu burlón" by the "El lugá" theatre association from Málaga will be the opening act of the IX National Amateur Theatre Competition "Antonio Ferrer, the Postman" on February 2. This is one of the plays that will be performed in the competition together with "Maison Close" by the cultural association "Paraskenia Teatro" from Talavera de la Reina and "Romeo e Giulietta, una commedia de W. Shakespeare" by the theatre group "Platea" from Tomelloso.

"Un espíritu burlón" by Noel Coward is a funny comedy that tells a story with the subtlety of English humour, in which the author achieves a pleasant mixture of reality, fantasy and absurdity, with funny situations in which the mysteries of the occult and the apparitions from the hereafter disturb the peaceful existence of a marriage.

On February 9, "Maison Close" will be performed by "Paraskenia Teatro". "Maison Close" is a dramatic comedy by Romain Gary, a French writer and diplomat of Lithuanian-Jewish origin, whose main character is Madame Nicole, a former Jewish prostitute who survived Auschwitz and lives in Paris. She lives with Totó, a young man whom she picked up when she was four years old. Totó has a brutal obsession with knowing his origins, and who takes care of Madame Nicole, who is in decline, sick and has gaps in her memory.

And on February 16 the group "Platea" will perform the play "Romeo e Giulietta, una commedia de W. Shakespeare" by Alberto Palacios and Juliet Olmedo. The competition ends on February 23 with the award ceremony and the non-competitive performance of Yllana, who will perform the "Gag Movie". The plays will be performed at 18.30 hours. They are free, limited to the capacity of the theatre and require a ticket, which can be picked up at the box office on the day of the performance.

The competition is endowed with 4,000 euros, 2,000 euros for the best play and 1,000 euros for each of the selected works. Prizes will also be awarded for the best director, the best male and female roles and the best production. The competition was created in 2012 to honour the theatre, an artistic discipline that has been a tradition in Calpe for over a hundred years, in honour of the local actor Antonio Ferrer.
