This summer, 1,201 people took part in the guided tours of the historic quarter, organised by the Department for the Revitalisation of the Old Town in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, in order to offer the inhabitants and visitors the chance to discover part of the history of the municipality and corners of great charm: the Forat a la Mar, part of the old city wall and gateway to the Moorish quarter, the Torreó de la Peça, former defence fortifications of the city, or the picturesque Plaça dels Mariners.
The visits, free of charge and in different languages, began on 5 July and lasted until 3 October. In order to comply with health regulations, the visits were designed to respect the safety distance and the compulsory wearing of masks. Prior registration at the tourist offices was required, as the groups were limited to 20 people.
In total, 850 people took part in the excursions in Spanish, 111 in Valencian, 167 in French and 73 in English. The majority of national visitors came from the Autonomous Community of Valencia, followed by those from Madrid and the Basque Country. Slightly more than 50% of the participants were visiting Calp for the first time and a significant percentage own a second home in the city. Most of the foreigners were from three different countries of origin: Germany, France and Belgium.
The aim of this initiative of the Councils for the Revitalisation of the Old Town and Tourism was, on the one hand, to make the Old Town of Calp known and appreciated and, on the other hand, to offer leisure and cultural alternatives in the open air.
