This morning the campaign was presented, which will be run by the town of Calp from today until the end of the Christmas season, to encourage purchases in local shops and at the same time "to make COVID not take away our Christmas enthusiasm".

The campaign has several aspects: on the one hand, an advertising campaign to promote local trade with the slogan "Give a smile to Calp's trade this Christmas". It is about giving preference to purchases in the local Calp trade over online purchases, with the message of giving a smile back to Calp traders despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic.

Paco Avargues, town councillor for commerce, has said that "this campaign is more necessary than ever; we intend to create a Christmas atmosphere that invites people to buy in Calp, the town is becoming a large shopping centre and has therefore invested in decoration, music. Red carpets will be laid free of charge at the entrances to the shops, there will be musical performances in the streets, everything to create a Christmas atmosphere inviting to buy in the local shops".

Another aspect of the campaign is the investment in Christmas lighting both in the old town and in the commercial areas of the municipality. The Councillor for Festivities, Ana Perles, announced that "although there will be no Three Kings procession this year, the Royal Messenger and the Magi will arrive in Calp and the children will be able to see them on social networks".

The various initiatives will be rounded off by the cultural programme organised for these dates, which, as the Councillor for Culture, Pilar Cabrera, explained, includes a cot route that can be visited in different parts of the municipality, the philatelic exhibition Exficalp, the children's theatre, the reopening of the Museum of Collections after its renovation and the Christmas concerts of the Rondalla and the choir. There will also be street performances by the Colla de Xirimiters del Carellot, the Unión Musical de Calp, the Xaranga la Xarlotà and the group Clau de Fa. The last performance of the year will be given by Ensemble Ifach.

All activities will be carried out in compliance with safety measures and capacity control.

The Town Council has also invited citizens to light their balconies and shops to take part in the competition for Christmas window displays.

The Mayor, Ana Sala, said that "this year we have adapted to the circumstances and prepared a very extensive programme, and with all the security measures in place, the aim is that people stay in Calp and shop here.
