The website of the city of Calp shows the public consultation of the population on the regulation of the gender perspective in the construction of residential, commercial and office buildings until 30 September.

The regulation covers two aspects: Security and co-responsibility in private premises. The aim is to regulate aspects that will allow the creation of appropriate spaces that promote equal treatment and also guarantee security in the use of shared public spaces. Both in public thoroughfares and in spaces created by private constructions, their design must be approached from a prism of promoting security, avoiding blind spots that can conceal illegal acts.

In the presentation of the public consultation it is pointed out that "the perception of insecurity reduces the autonomy of people occupying urban spaces, and this perception of fear must be analysed taking into account the effects of gender. Security is a factor that must be addressed in order to make urban planning proposals from a gender perspective, because in the design and planning of urban spaces this sense of security can be increased or decreased, bringing us closer to the so-called caring and egalitarian city".

The decree project, promoted by the Department of Urban Planning and Equality, considers that from the moment the building permit is granted, the gender perspective should be part of the decision-making process, since what is decided at that time will have an impact on the use of the land over a long period of time. Similarly, the design of common spaces in buildings and their interaction with public space must be examined from a perspective that ensures the safety of the population.

The draft regulation, which is in the public consultation regulation, provides inter alia for access to buildings from a main road and not from secondary roads; it is proposed that the closure of building plots in the block be regulated in such a way as to make them safer; that commercial premises reach to the street front; and that angles and poorly lit corners be avoided.

In order to encourage the presence of common or relational spaces, and to promote relations between neighbours, it is proposed that these areas should not be included in the building plots. However, the draft regulation will remain publicly available on the local authority website until 30 September to allow citizens to make their contributions.
