The town of Calp has begun maintenance and renovation work on the Casa del Cocó under the EMCORP program, which aims to recruit unemployed people aged 30 or over to carry out works or services of general interest in cooperation with the local authorities of the Valencia region.
In this case, 6 workers were recruited: 2 bricklayers, 2 painters and 2 workers with a grant from Labora of €62 600.
The measures to be carried out at Casa del Cocó include maintenance work, renovation and waterproofing of the walls, reconstruction of badly damaged parts of the roof and maintenance of the external carpentry workshop.
Casa del Cocó is a typical rural building of the Marina Alta; it originally had large rooms for storing agricultural products from the marina's own harvest, corridors, cellars, barns and an extensive Riurau building for the production of sultanas, of which Casa del Cocó was a major producer.
This building and the six thousand metres of land adjacent to it were purchased by the town of Calp in 1998, and after a restoration process that sought to be as faithful as possible to the original, it now houses the Casa del Cocó Ethnological Museum.
