The Calp Town Council today began work on improving the zebra crossing in the municipality. The aim is to prevent slips and falls, as some streets are steeply sloping and in some cases the paint applied to the zebra crossing has several layers of paint.

The project covers almost all roads in the city centre, and especially those with a high gradient. The solution chosen for improving the zebra crossings is to mill off the asphalt until the existing layers of paint are removed and then to paint the crossings with acrylic paint. In addition, a non-slip fabric is applied before a second coat of paint.

The work was awarded to the Tebaseñal company for 28,846 euros and is expected to be completed within four weeks. The work began today in Calle Capitán Pérez Jordá and will continue along Avenida Masnou and Avenida Valencia to Calle Benidorm and via Plaza Colón and Calle Murillo and Calle Benissa until all the streets in the project are completed.

Most of the paint on the pedestrian crossings in the municipality is acrylic and has little or no adhesion, which, together with the high gradient of the streets in some cases and in damp and rainy conditions in others, increases the problems of slipping.
