In recent months, the Calp Town Council, through the Línea 900 Department, has installed new clusters of concentrated household mailboxes, thereby expanding this service in the Carrió, Marisol Park, Ortembach and Los Pinos residential areas. And for the first time, a distribution point has been installed in Enginent II.
A total of 2,907 individual mailboxes are now available to the public. The Calp Town Council has been providing this service since 2014, the year in which Correos announced the interruption of door‑to‑door delivery in those residential areas considered “special environments” that did not have Pluridomiciliary Concentrated Mailboxes (BCP). This measure was adopted under Royal Decree 503/2007 of 20 April, which establishes the obligation to install BCPs in areas classified as special — isolated or scattered homes, areas with significant urban development and low population density, residential estates, markets, among others — in order to continue receiving postal deliveries.
Although the installation of mailboxes is, in principle, a matter for residents, the Town Council considered it appropriate to undertake this initiative, aware of the difficulties it poses for residents of these areas — many of whom are foreign nationals and absent for certain periods of the year — as well as the large number of mailboxes required. All of this aims to guarantee postal delivery in these zones.
Since then, the Calp Town Council has continued to expand and install new pluridomiciliary concentrated mailboxes to meet existing demand. It is also responsible for ensuring that they are correctly labelled and arranged alphanumerically in accordance with postal regulations. For this reason, the Town Council wishes to highlight that when the number of mailboxes is increased in a residential area, as has happened now, it is possible that previously used mailboxes may change position within the cluster to maintain the required order; however, the lock, keys and numbering will remain the same.
With the installation of these new mailboxes:
-
Carrió, which had three clusters (two with 48 individual mailboxes and one with 36), will now have a fourth with 48 new mailboxes.
-
Marisol Park, which had one cluster of 48, will have 48 more.
-
Ortembach, which had two clusters of 36, will have 48 more.
-
Los Pinos, which had one cluster of 36 and another of 24, will have 48 more.
-
Enginent II will have a cluster of 24 mailboxes for postal distribution.
The Town Council has an ordinance regulating the installation of these mailbox clusters, which states that they may be requested by single‑family homes and industrial units. Therefore, dwellings under a horizontal property regime are excluded, as they must have their own postal‑reception systems.
Residents of these areas who wish to rent one of these mailboxes must apply at the Citizen Service Office (OAC) using a specific form and present a copy of their DNI, NIE or passport, as well as documentation proving ownership of the property (title deed or latest IBI receipt), and pay €120 for a 15‑year rental period. In the case of tenants, the property owner must carry out the procedure. It is recommended to check mailbox availability by calling the free Línea 900 citizen‑service and incident‑reporting number: 900 20 40 50.
The Calp Town Council will continue expanding the number of mailboxes in residential areas that require them, depending on demand, and where Correos does not provide door‑to‑door delivery because they are considered special environments under current postal regulations.
“The collaboration of the Town Council is essential to continue expanding this service and to keep the distribution points correctly labelled and arranged alphanumerically, thus ensuring an efficient and accessible postal service for residents of these areas,” said the Mayor of Calp, Ana Sala, who added that “this initiative also represents a significant municipal effort to respond to a real need of many residents and to help improve their daily lives and the quality of the services they receive.”
