The Calp City Council, which met this morning, has agreed to ask the Generalitat Valenciana to convene the Penyal d'Ifac Board of Directors as soon as possible to take measures to ensure control of the park's capacity and to take preventive measures against COVID-19.

The Calp Town Council considers that these measures must be adopted as a matter of urgency after receiving numerous complaints and warnings from residents and visitors to the municipality about the lack of security and control in the park. Specifically, they warn of capacity problems, night-time visits and the fact that many hikers do not wear masks, although it is difficult to maintain a safe distance on certain stretches, as indicated by signs in the park.

The City Council also considers it necessary to carry out campaigns to raise awareness and clean up the park, following the discovery of a large amount of waste in this natural environment.

On the other hand, the City Council also asks the Valencian Government to raise at the meeting the semi-abandoned status of the car park at the entrance to the park as well as the land situated on the northern slope of the rock.

In July 2019, the City Council asked the Ministry of the Environment to adapt this plot of land, which has been used for years as a car park for visitors to the park, as the pedestrian route starts from there and the terrain has deteriorated considerably. For this reason, some kind of measure is needed to improve accessibility and facilitate visits.

The City Council also requested that the use of the Casal d'Ifac, which is no longer in use and which is to be given a tourist use linked to the nature park, be transferred. This land, like the car park, is located at the access to the rock and also belongs to the Valencian Government

In its request to the Generalitat, Calp City Council proposes that the meeting of the Penyal Presidium be held on or around 18 September.
