The Culture Department of the Calpe Town Council has announced the III National Sculpture Competition ‘Villa de Calpe’, an initiative that seeks to promote the work of sculptors from all over the country and, at the same time, contribute to the beautification of the historic centre of the municipality, as the winning work is expected to be installed there.
The competition offers a single prize of €7,000 and is open to artists of any nationality residing in Spain. Collectively created works will also be accepted. Each artist or collective may submit up to a maximum of three works, which may be of any theme and aesthetic style. Bearing in mind that the final sculpture will be located outdoors, materials must be used that will not deteriorate over time and will withstand exposure to the elements.
The registration period ends on 18 March, and those interested must submit a standardised application form for the competition, SUB16: Competition Registration Form, via the Calpe Town Council's website, together with three photos or sketches of the work. After analysing the entries in a second phase, the jury will select the works submitted, and those selected must submit an unsigned model by 19 June to the Jaume Pastor i Fluixà cultural centre, unsigned, with a slogan and in a sealed envelope.
When deciding the winner of the competition, the jury will assess criteria such as the artistic quality of the work, the creativity of the author, the innovation and originality of the work, its expressive power, the sculptural technique used, the treatment of the material, and the use of materials that can withstand outdoor exposure.
The winning work will become the property of Calp Town Council, forming part of its heritage.
Those interested can consult the competition rules on the notice board of the municipal website: www.calp.es.
