Calpe Town Council has awarded this week the works to finish the road J, specifically to link section I with section VI of this road that joins the Avenida de la Generalidad Valenciana with Avenida Casa Nova and Avenida Vall de Laguart. The works have been awarded to the Pavasal company for €2,158,254 with a completion period of 12 months. The work is supported by a grant of 662,923 euros from the Diputación de Alicante, from the Investment and Financing Plan.

This partially completed road, named after Felipe VI, is decisive in moving traffic from the beach area to the main road without passing through the avenues Ejércitos Españoles and Diputación, and will therefore reduce traffic congestion in the town centre.

Section 6 of road J, one of the most significant initiatives in the urban planning area of Calpe Town Council, is the last 650-metre segment of a project that originated in the 1989 General Plan. This section will provide a better connection between Avenida Casa Nova and Avenida Rumania, and will serve as a ring road to reach the beach area without crossing the town centre.

The road has been consolidated in phases, and in 2020 the first section of the road was opened to traffic, specifically the section that starts at the Avenida de la Generalitat roundabout and ends at Gargasindi. The original plan suffered delays following a report from the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation which required rainwater drainage works to be carried out. After adapting the project and receiving approval from the CHJ, the council awarded phase VI.

"Road J is a very important infrastructure; it is like the Calpe ring road that will contribute to the growth and development of the town. It will be definitive in decongesting traffic accessing the beach area as it will alleviate traffic on busy roads such as the Ejércitos Españoles and Diputación avenues. This is a historic process that culminates after years of management and work," said Juan Manuel del Pino, councillor for Urban Planning and Infrastructures.
