This week, Calpe Town Council began work on creating perimeter strips in the Sierra de Oltà mountains to prevent forest fires. This initiative is part of the implementation of the Local Forest Fire Prevention Plan and is included in the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan (PSTD), which is supported by the Valencian Regional Ministry of Tourism - Turisme Comunitat Valenciana - and the Secretary of State for Tourism within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) financed by the European Union - Next Generation.
The project, which has been awarded to the company Levanfor SL for a total of €153,000, will be carried out over two years. This year, perimeter strips will be created between the Oltà mountain range and the Corralets, Cucarres and Oltamar residential areas, and in 2026, these protection areas will be implemented along the roads in Oltà to prevent the spread of possible forest fires.
‘This project contributes to Calpe's adaptation to the challenges posed by climate change with the aim of making it a more resilient municipality and also better prepared to manage fire-related risks,’ said Pere Moll.
