For the first time, the King of the Fiestas will also be elected from among the eight year olds
On Saturday, 29 June, the 2024 Fiestas Commission will hold the election and proclamation of the Calpe Fiestas Queen and the Children's Queen in the Plaza Mayor square. In addition, for the first time in the history of Calpe's fiestas, the King of the Children's Festivities will be elected from among the eight year olds. This event, which will start at 21:30 hours, is one of the most important events organised by the Festivities Commission as it is the presentation of the entire Commission.
28 young Calpeinas aged 18 will compete for the title of Queen of the Fiestas, the maximum female representative of the fiestas, and the same event will be used to elect the children's queen from among the 18 eight-year-old ladies. This year, as a novelty, the children's king of the fiestas will also be chosen from among the 18 8 year olds who are competing for the position. All the candidates for queen will be accompanied by children and young people from the 2016 and 2006 quintas who form part of the Festivities Commission and by the festeros and festeras of the 1986 quinta who complete the commission presided over by Saray Ortiz.
The election of the Queens and Children's King and Queen will take place, as in previous years, by drawing lots before a notary in a gala that will be the official presentation of the Festivities Commission and will also serve to bid farewell to the Queens of the 2023 Festivities. As tradition dictates, the queens of the previous year, María Crespo and Abril Mestre, will be in charge of drawing the names of the new queens, which will be read out once the courts of honour are present on stage.
The event will be held in the Plaza Mayor, where a large walkway will be set up to the stage and 1800 chairs will be installed. The 2024 Festivities Commission, in charge of organising the patron saint festivities to be held in August, has already carried out other events within the programme for this year, such as the organisation of the Three Kings Cavalcade and the Easter Week events.
