The Festival Committee 2019 elects the Queen of the Festival of Calpe and the Queen of the Children on the Plaza Mayor on June, 29. The election begins at 22:00 and is the most important ceremony organised by the festival committee.
39 28-year-old candidates stand for the election of the Festival Queen. In the same election, the children's queen is also selected from 22 8-year-old candidates. All the candidates will be accompanied by children and young people born in 2011 and 2012, who will be part of the Festival Commission, and the members of the Festival Commission from 1981. The committee will be chaired by Raquel Pastor.
The election of the queens is, as every year, carried out by a notary during the gala of the public presentation of the festival committee. During the Gala, the 2018 Queens, Lucía Tenza and Sandra Simarro, will also be bid farewell. As tradition dictates, the Queens of the Year 2018 will draw the names of the new Queens. Their names will then be read out as soon as the honourable accompanying ladies appear on stage. The gala will be presented by the journalist Juan Nieto and María Pineda, member of the Committee.
The celebration will take place in the Plaza Mayor. Large gateways to the stage and 2,000 chairs will be installed on the square. The 2019 Festival Committee, which is responsible for organising the patron saint's festivities in August, has already organised other events as part of this year's program, such as the presentation of the Blusón, the organisation of the Three Kings Parade and the Easter Week events.
