The National Statistics Institute has informed Calpe Town Council that its proposed population figure for the municipality as of 1 January 2024 is 26,821 inhabitants, 967 more than the previous year. A period of allegations is now open, and if no allegations are made, the INE's proposal will be officially approved.

In this way, Calpe continues the upward trend registered in recent years and sees the number of registered residents increase year after year. This increase is due, in part, to the registration of new citizens from Ukraine and Russia, as Calpe already registered last year because of the war between the two countries. In fact, in this last year, after the Spaniards, the nationality with the highest number of registered residents is Ukrainian (292 people), followed by Colombian (291) and Russian (169 people).

This increase in the number of people registered is also due to the work of the Population Register Department, which has implemented various actions to prevent population loss. It should be borne in mind that one of the problems detected is the lack of information on the part of citizens, who in many cases are convinced that they are already registered or are unaware of the need to renew their census if they are foreigners.

For this reason, the Padrón sends letters of notice or SMS three months in advance to those citizens whose census registration is about to expire so that they can renew their registration. In addition, information campaigns have been launched to raise awareness of the importance of being registered in order to access numerous municipal services and benefits.

These actions, along with others carried out in previous years, have allowed Calpe to gradually recover its population after reaching the 20,000 inhabitants barrier in 2016 (with the consequent loss of transfers from the State). In this way, Calpe continues to recover inhabitants and economic subsidies.
