Calpe is attending the 3rd Bologna Cycle Tourism Fair to be held from 5 to 7 April with the aim of promoting itself as a destination for the practice of this sport. This fair is the first event in Italy entirely dedicated to travel and cycling enthusiasts.

Calpe's stand is one of the most popular, with great interest from visitors for the cycling routes offered by the municipality, as well as for the different services and equipment available for cycling enthusiasts. On the other hand, it is also of great interest for the diversity of landscapes in the area: mountains, coasts, historical sites and charming corners that Calpe offers, even to explore by bicycle. The people who visit this fair are keen on cycle touring as well as family cycle touring, MTB and MTB sports, where the electric bicycle already has a large number of followers.

Calpe Town Council is taking part in this fair as part of its policy of destabilising the tourist offer in order to promote the town as an ideal destination for cycle tourism. In this sense, Calpe's mild climate is being promoted, with numerous sunny days and mild temperatures, which favours the practice of outdoor cycling. Also the growing public investment, through the Next Generation funds of the European Union that provide for an improvement of the bike lane on Avenida Juan Carlos I, as well as private investment in infrastructure and services. In this sense, in recent years there has been an increase in the number of companies offering bicycle rental, maintenance, transport and specialised accommodation services.

"The organisers themselves define cycle tourism as "Embracing the path of active and sustainable tourism is a commitment to preserve the beauty of our planet and its cultural nuances". And this is precisely the line that we at the Department of Tourism want to focus tourism, seasonal, sustainable, respectful of the environment and open to know the cultural and social uniqueness that Calpe offers," said the Councillor for International Promotion Marco Bittner.

"Calpe has been successfully promoted in this meeting, both at the end user level and with different actors who have been interested in Calpe as a destination for their trips. We have also obtained Know How on cycle tourism that will be presented to the Municipal Council of Tourism Intelligence, Local and Sustainable Economic Development", said the councillor for Tourism Planning Mireia Ripoll.

Meeting point for professionals

The Bologna Cycle Tourism Fair was also a meeting point for cycle tourism professionals, with the celebration of the Cycle Tourism Forum on the first day of the fair. Under the slogan "from bike to business", this forum brought together the main players in the sector, both new and established, to discuss the latest trends and opportunities in the market.
