The SEPE (State Public Employment Service) has published the unemployment figures for April 2025, which in Calpe stand at 948 people, representing 8.34% of a population of 26,637. This figure is the lowest unemployment rate recorded in the municipality in recent years.
Of the total number of unemployed, 436 are men and 512 are women. The age groups most affected by unemployment for both men and women are those aged 45 and over. By sector, there are 5 unemployed in the agricultural sector, 28 in the industrial sector, 126 in the construction sector, 714 in services and 75 people who were previously unemployed.
The positive reading is that the downward trend in unemployment in Calpe continues, as in 2024 unemployment stood at 8.97%, i.e. 1,003 people, in 2023 at 9.19%, 995 people, in 2022 at 11.16%, with 1,125 unemployed, in 2021 with 15.15% unemployment with 1,509 people out of work, and in 2020 (the year of the pandemic) when an unemployment rate of 20.95% was recorded, equivalent to 2,093 people out of work in a population of 23,326.
The highest unemployment figure in the last 20 years was recorded in 2014, when the unemployment rate reached 23.28% with 2,055 unemployed out of a total population of 22,437.
