Calpe Town Council has today reopened the facilities of the municipal swimming pool after it was closed last December following the cancellation of the contract with the concessionaire due to its numerous breaches of contract.

The reopening is free of charge and is a preliminary stage to the Town Hall's final project, so that the facilities will initially be open from 8am to 2pm for free swimming, with lifeguard and administrative services. Complementary activities such as swimming lessons, water aerobics, swimming for mums, etc. will be offered once the administrative procedures have been finalised.

The City Council envisages that the management of the swimming pool and its services will be taken over directly by the City Council, which is why the regulation that will govern the public prices for using the swimming pool has already been drawn up and will be debated at the plenary session in June. In addition, the computerised application that will make it possible to record the services once the regulation has been adopted is already in the contracting phase.

The direct management of the municipal swimming pool involves the processing of a total of 18 public contracts of various types, which is why the opening hours took longer than expected. The Councillor for Sport and Works, Ximo Perles, said: "We would have liked to open the municipal swimming pool earlier and offer all the services, but we believe that it is better to open it in this preliminary phase while the administrative procedures are being resolved in order to offer a complete project with all the activities. Our wish is to fully reopen the swimming pool as soon as possible.
