The Calpe executive has conveyed to the Regional Ministry of Education the need to put out to tender imminently the two most necessary educational infrastructures for the municipality. Yesterday the Mayoress, Ana Sala, and the Councillor for Education, Mariola Mulet, met in Valencia with the Director General of Educational Infrastructures, Rafael Valcárcel, to inform him of the difficult educational situation in CALPE.

The two major educational projects within the Pla Edificant, the new Secondary School and the new Gargasindi Special Education School, have seen their budgets skyrocket. At last November's plenary session, the Town Council asked the Generalitat to modify the delegation of powers due to the increase in the budget, and this is currently blocking the tendering process.

Thus, the CEE Gargasindi has a base budget of 7,493,415 euros, almost one and a half million euros more than the initial figure due to the increase in costs experienced in recent years and the requirements of adapting a module requested by the Consellería.

As for the new Institute, in the plenary session last December, the basic and execution project was approved at a cost of 15,392,935 euros instead of the 12,707,451 euros initially budgeted for. However, the mayoress, Ana Sala, pointed out that "we have told the director general that if necessary, the Town Hall will pay for these increases in the works, but what is absolutely necessary is to start the tender now".

The mayoress and the councillor for education insisted before the director general on the "complicated educational situation of CALPE", the overcrowding of the IES and the situation of the students of Gargasindi currently located in Benissa in facilities that are not at all adapted to their needs. They also invited the regional responsible to visit CALPE and check "in situ" the shortcomings of the educational infrastructure of the municipality.

Finally, the General Director of Educational Infrastructures, Rafael Valcárcel, promised to pay special attention to both projects and called on the Town Hall to give an answer within 10 days to solve the current blockage.
