The Department of Social Welfare, Equality and Family has launched the "Línies amb il-lusió" campaign aiming to bring more than 250 letters to people living in the homes of the elderly in the municipality or people served by the Home Care Service and who are in a situation of unwanted loneliness.

To carry out the initiative, the Department has contacted various local associations or entities such as the Ifach Secondary School, the Association of Friends of Art Calp, the Association of Women for Equality, the Philatelic and Numismatic Association, the Fibromyalgia Association, the Association of Housewives, the Alicante Association for the fight against cancer, the Francophone Association of Calpe, the Association of Belgian Friends of Levante - Calpe and the Civic Centre for the Elderly.

The idea is that through these associations, those interested write personalised letters, as each participant will be assigned a recipient, to send a few lines of encouragement and congratulations for the Christmas holidays. The letters are also addressed to foreign residents, so foreign language associations have been contacted. No logos will appear on the letters; this is an action of solidarity and citizen participation in which the City Council will merely be a facilitator.

The Agrupación Filatélica y Numismática has already confirmed that it will be responsible for the postmarking of the letters which will be addressed to the Domus VI, La Saleta and Colina Club residences. Anyone interested in taking part in the initiative can contact any of the participating associations or contact the Council via email olopez@ajcalp.es or telephone 96 583 72 23. This is the first edition of the campaign, but the intention is to continue and expand it in the coming years.

The councillor for Social Welfare, Itziar Doval, pointed out that "this is an initiative at little or no cost that can make many people happy, we are targeting particularly vulnerable groups who live these dates in solitude and for whom receiving a few lines is an illusion".
