Today, 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, members of the City Council, city employees and dozens of citizens gathered in Miguel Roselló Square to demonstrate their aversion to gender-based violence.
City councillor Pilar Cabrera, who represented the city council, has read a manifesto of the Spanish Association of the Spanish Cities and Provinces Day to express "the most vigorous rejection of any kind of gender-based violence". She then read the names of each of the 52 victims of 2019, along with other members of the Council and members of the City Council. The act ended with a minute's silence in memory of these victims.
This demo will be added to other actions planned by the Calpe City Council, such as a cycle of short films and a play and will be organised by the Asociación de Mujeres por la Igualdad de Calpe in Plaza Constitución today at 8 pm. On Wednesday 27 November, at 8 p.m., Rosario Tur Ausina, Professor of Constitutional Law, will give a lecture entitled "Gender Violence: Myths and Truths" at the Saló Blau.
