Calpe Town Council is installing an innovative outdoor gym with variable weight weights in the municipal sports facilities, next to the Pista Azul (Pista Blava), on the south side facing Avenida del País Valencià. With an investment of €125,719, it is one of the few spaces of its kind in Spain: until now, there was only one similar facility in Barcelona, and from now on it will also be available in Calpe.

The new sports space, designed for outdoor training for people of different ages and physical abilities, will be equipped with professional weight training machines with adjustable weights: chest press, back pull-down, leg press, shoulder press, horizontal rowing machine, three-zone cross training station and pull-up station, among other elements. All the equipment is designed and certified for outdoor installation, with protective casings covering the moving parts and safety systems to prevent entrapment and vandalism.

The assembly work is now in its final phase and, once the installation is complete, the area will have to pass the corresponding safety certification in accordance with the UNE-EN 16630 standard for outdoor fitness equipment. The municipal forecast is that the gym will be able to open to the public during the first week of March, provided that the technical and administrative procedures stipulated in the contract are completed.

In addition to the mechanical equipment, the project incorporates a technological dimension. All the machines will be connected to a mobile application accessible via a QR code installed on the information panels in the enclosure. Through this app, users will be able to watch demonstration videos of the exercises, follow training plans for different levels and objectives (getting fit, weight loss, general strengthening, active work for older people) and keep a record of their sessions to plan their routines in a personalised way.

The outdoor gym at Pista Azul is part of Calpe Town Council's strategy to promote healthy lifestyles and expand the municipal sports offering with more modern, accessible and free facilities that allow citizens to exercise outdoors all year round.
