Calpe Town Council has announced to the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community that it will present an appeal in cassation following the decision of the court to dismiss the administrative appeal presented by the Calpe Town Council against the decision of the Generalitat Valenciana to authorise the extension of the fish farm off the coast of Calpe.
This is yet another legal step with which the Town Council is continuing its fight to prevent the expansion of this macro marine farm, which has gone from 12 to 45 floating cages with a maximum production capacity of 3,000 tonnes of fish per year, from being consolidated.
"We continue to fight, we continue to use each and every one of the tools at our disposal to prevent an installation of these characteristics and dimensions in Calpe," said the mayoress of Calpe, Ana Sala.
With this new appeal, the Town Hall wants to assert its arguments against this project. Among them, the "lack of rigour" and "laxity" of the Conselleria in the supervision of the documentation presented by the company to obtain authorisation for the extension. Specifically, it is pointed out that within the environmental impact study, the study of currents presented by the company was only carried out over a period of one month, which is insufficient time to assess whether the fish farm's activity will have a negative effect on the marine environment. It is also intended to defend the landscape impact of the project in a tourist town like Calpe or the lack of assessment by the Regional Ministry on the economic repercussions of the expansion of the fish farm, which according to a report by the head of the Economic Promotion Department of the City Council would be around 450 million euros in losses for the local economy.
