Calpe Town Council, through the Department of the Environment, wishes to remind citizens of the obligation to keep their plots clean given the special situation of risk of forest fires that exists in the Valencian Community. The Calpe Town Council has launched an information campaign under the slogan "Parcel-les netes, boscos segurs" to raise public awareness of the importance of keeping their plots of land clean.

This obligation is included in Calpe's Ordinance for the Protection of the Urban Environment, which states that owners of all types of land and buildings, as well as owners of commercial, industrial or mercantile operations, must maintain these plots in safe conditions and expressly prohibits having rubbish, urban waste or rubble on them or on adjacent public or private land. They must also keep these plots fenced off, as long as no new construction work is carried out.

The cleaning of these plots, in addition to preventing possible forest fires, is also intended to prevent pests in plant species and the proliferation of insects.

Failure to comply with all these obligations entails the application of coercive fines.

On the other hand, as part of this campaign, the Town Council will be holding a workshop on forest fire prevention on 30 April at 7 p.m. in the Saló Blau, which will provide the keys to preventing these disasters and protecting the environment.

"We are in a serious situation of fire risk due to the low rainfall recorded this year with very dry vegetation and we have to take extreme measures to avoid possible forest fires," said the councillor for the Environment Pere Moll, who added that "in the municipality of Calpe there are many forest plots that are private property and it is very important that citizens are aware that they also have a very important role in preventing fires in our town; it is everyone's responsibility.
