The City Council of Calpe has received notification from the Patent and Trademark Office of the completion of the process carried out to create a trademark that helps to promote and enhance the Gamba Blanca de Calpe. Therefore, the “Gamba Blanca de Calpe” brand is now registered in the name of the Calpe City Council.

As part of the centenary celebrations of the Fishermen's Guild, last year the City Council requested the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office to register the “Gamba Blanca de Calpe” brand.

In this way, the brand “Gamba Blanca de Calpe” brand joins the already recognized brand “Peix de Calpe,” (Fish from Calpe) launched years ago by the City Council, Creama, and the Cofradía to promote and enhance the fish marketed through the town's Cofradía. The brand “Gamba Blanca de Calpe” emphasizes the excellence of this gastronomic product, of which 2,000 kilos arrive daily at the port of Calpe, highlighting its versatility, making it an ideal delicacy both for haute cuisine and for home cooking.

The mayor, Ana Sala, announced the news last Saturday during the “Sabors de la Mar” Gastronomic Days organized by Creama. Sala stated that "we are taking a decisive step to secure high quality brads and strengthen our local gastronomic symbol. This seal recognizes the work of the entire chain: from the catch to the fish market and its destination in our kitchens and restaurants. We will now accompany the brand with promotional actions and showcase it at trade fairs as a synonym of excellence and the Mediterranean.”

During the session, the mayor also referred to the crisis in the fishing sector: “but a strong brand can only be sustained by a strong sector: the label is of little use if we do not guarantee decent working conditions, an operational and safe port, and a chain that adds value from the sea to the plate. Our fleet needs support and working days, and the port needs urgent improvements.”
