The environmental surveillance patrols organised by the Environment Department have today carried out a day of waste collection in the area surrounding Las Salinas. The 11 people who make up these patrols have spent the morning cleaning the perimeter of the sheet of water of Las Salinas and have collected 300 kilos of rubbish.

Among the waste collected, the amount of paper, especially advertising leaflets, packaging, plastics, and glass stands out, and the environmental guards even found a mobile phone and batteries. Today's action will be repeated in other natural areas of the municipality, and according to the councillor for the environment, Pere Moll, "the idea is to open the day to all citizens who voluntarily want to participate, making it a day of participation and environmental awareness".

Pere Moll also pointed out that "we detect a great lack of civic-mindedness, in the end it is not the cleanest who cleans the most, but the one who dirties the least, we all have to do our part and collaborate in keeping Calp clean, in this sense it is necessary to work on environmental education".

The Environment Department has launched this summer three patrols of environmental monitoring that develop their functions in three areas and with different functions with special emphasis on environmental education.

Thus, the first group carries out fire prevention activities in the Sierra de Oltá and at the same time, from the hut in the camping area that gives access to Oltà, it carries out the inspection of campers and carries out environmental education activities in the fire prevention area.

The second of these patrols carries out surveillance and quality control functions on the beaches and informs beach users about environmental aspects, paying special attention to explaining what Posidonia is and the need for it not to be removed from the beaches.

The third brigade, which works in collaboration with Acciona, focuses on enforcing the ordinance on uncontrolled dumping, elimination of pruning waste, removal of household goods and furniture, avoiding the accumulation of waste in the vicinity of containers, etc. To this end, they carry out their surveillance and information tasks in the town centre and residential areas (urbanizaciones).
