The Department of Public Safety and the Calpe Police Headquarters, in the framework of the training sessions that have been given during the last week on drug detection in driving, deployed a preventive control for drivers in the Avenida Ejércitos Españoles.
Calpe Police officers who attended the aforementioned training sessions took part in the operation. The preventive checkpoint -control-, had the collaboration of the Civil Guard of Calpe, who acted within the framework of the powers provided for in the Law of Public Safety.
The preventive control resulted in the reporting of several illegal conducts, among them, several related to driving under the influence of toxic drugs and narcotics. Driving under the influence of toxic drugs is the cause of more than 70% of road deaths. In the face of these behaviours, the Council and Headquarters have shown their zero tolerance.
In the words of the Councillor for Citizen Safety, Guillermo Sendra, "road safety is a concern of this Headquarters, and we will redouble our efforts and resources in the specialisation of our police officers to improve the effectiveness of our work in the prosecution of criminal behaviour".
The Public Safety Councillor and the Police Headquarters are very aware that the public roads of the municipality of Calpe are safe for all who pass through them and are committed to carry out such operations on a regular basis in order to ensure road safety in Calpe.
