The cleaning of the seabed in the port of Calpe on Saturday resulted in the collection of nearly 1000 kilos of waste. IMEDMAR, the Catholic University of Valencia, the Fishermen's Guild, the Royal Yacht Club, Costaleros de la Mare de Déu del Carme, Calpe Blau, Gravity Wave and the Town Hall, among other entities and associations, participated in the day.

 

The day was attended by volunteers on land and divers from clubs all over the Valencian Community. The cleaning of the seabed in the port of Calpe was carried out by volunteer divers supported by the fishermen of Calpe and the volunteers carried out the extraction on land.

 

Among the debris extracted was a large quantity of large wheels, glass, nets, boats and plastics. The waste was separated and deposited in different containers. In addition to the cleaning of the harbour bottoms, waste was also collected in Las Salinas.

 

José Rafael García, director of IMEDMAR, said that ‘the assessment of the day is very positive because this initiative has brought together diving people, fishermen, volunteers, university, sports people, all together for the same goal: to work for the environment and raise awareness.
