The commitment of the Sports Department of the Calpe City Council to green energy and sustainability is already starting to bear fruit. It is estimated that the implementation of solar panels at the municipal swimming pool will result in an annual saving of €15,000 on the municipal electricity bill.

Last October, photovoltaic panels were installed at the municipal swimming pool with an investment of €26,741, aiming to improve energy efficiency and reduce the electricity consumption of the sports facilities.

The project has involved installing a hybrid photovoltaic system on the roof of the municipal swimming pool for self-consumption, with surplus energy fed into the 500 W grid and with the possibility of energy storage. A generator composed of 104 modules or panels with intelligent monitoring has been installed. The installation can generate 28.7 kWh of power, while the pool consumes an average of 5.9 kWh.

In other words, the panels generate approximately 486% more energy than needed for the pool's operation, energy that will be offset with the rest of the municipal facilities to reduce the bill. On the other hand, it is estimated that the cost of the solar panels will be amortized in less than two years.

Solar panels cover the local demand with renewable energy, reduce the cost of the electricity bill, and at the same time reduce carbon emissions. This installation is added to the biomass boiler of the municipal pool and the LED lights, which aim for maximum energy efficiency and savings in this sports facility.
