The Calp Town Council today published on its website the call for tenders for the Club Social rehabilitation works and the execution of the pedestrian bridge and coastal regeneration in Cala Manzanera of Calp. Interested companies have until 15 December to submit their bids for this project, which is estimated at 1,361,863.80 euros.
The aim is to recover one of the emblematic buildings that is part of the architectural complex designed by Ricardo Bofill's architectural office in the Urbanización La Manzanera in the late 1960s, which has been in a state of ruin for years.
The Club Social La Manzanera is a leisure complex located on the sea front, which used to house a restaurant, a swimming pool and a small pier. The location exposed to the sea and the long period of neglect have brought the complex to a state of serious deterioration.
The renovation includes the complex, which consists of the building itself, the outdoor pools and the stairs leading up from the cliff. The aim is to restore the area while maintaining its original design and structure, its characteristic round windows and its original materials.
This is a unique space owned by the Ministry of the Environment, as it is part of public property, and together with the breakwater and the coastal front was ceded to the city in 2017 for a maximum period of 30 years, which would allow the city council to carry out the regeneration of the area.
This very tender provides for the renewal of the seafront by creating a pedestrian bridge of about 100 metres in length, which will connect the Club Social with the bay of La Manzanera, located a little further south. This will regenerate the embankment and implement a containment system of detached materials. The pedestrian walkway will be installed above the level of the bay and will be two metres wide. The project foresees that it will be built with a concrete structure, as it is exposed to the aggression of the sea.
The opening of the tendering period for this construction coincides with the progress of the procedures for declaring both these facilities and the buildings of the Muralla Roja and Xanadú, also by Bofill, located on the cliff where the Club Social is located, as Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC).
