Calpe hosted on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th the third edition of the Calpe Pop Festival organised by the Calp Town Hall, a festival that started in 2021 with the performance of Los Secretos, with Covid restrictions, and continued in 2022 with the performance of Marta Sánchez although one of the days could not take place due to the explosive genesis planned for that date.
The Calpe Pop Festival was born as an event to promote leisure. Calp is a family tourism destination with demand for leisure activities from young Calpinos and tourists, so three years ago the Town Hall considered that the long weekend of 15 August was the ideal time to hold an event of this type aimed at all audiences and that having two days of events allows to offer specific shows for adults and for a younger audience.
This edition has been a success with the public; however, the Town Hall regrets the incidents that occurred on the day of Camela's performance due to the impossibility for hundreds of people to access the festival site due to the limited capacity. Although a large number of people were expected due to the large number of fans of this group, the truth is that all expectations were exceeded and the attendance of people from different parts of Spain was confirmed.
The Parc de la Creativitat, like other municipal venues, has a specific capacity for safety reasons that must always be respected, as well as the safety and evacuation plans that indicate the capacity of each facility.
As for the possibility of holding the Calpe Pop Festival in the Plaza Mayor, the Town Hall indicates that the residents of the area around the Plaza Mayor have already endured the concerts and events during the patron saint festivities and bringing this Festival to the Parc de la Creatividad is a way of not saturating the area of the Plaza Mayor. It is also considered that the Parc de la Creatividad is more suitable than any other place in the municipality given its characteristics and location.
However, in the preparation of the fourth edition of the Calpe Pop Festival, other formulas are already being studied so that no one is left without access to the concerts. The Calp Town Hall would like to thank the collaboration of the State Security Forces, Civil Guard, Civil Protection, Local Police, Red Cross, the group Excelsior, the Asociación de Moros y Cristianos in charge of the bars and all the artists who participated in this edition with great success.
