Calpe Town Council and Creama Calpe, with the collaboration of the Calpe Business Association (AEMCO), are organising the XIV Fira Calpe, the gastronomy and trade fair of the town of Calpe, which will be held from 9 to 12 May in the Plaza Mayor.
This new edition will have a total of 42 exhibitors, 12 more than last year - 34 catering establishments and eight shops - and in addition, for the first time there will be a Trade Day, scheduled for Sunday 12 May, in order to give the opportunity to participate in the fair to those businesses that cannot be present on the four days of the event. Twelve shops have already confirmed their participation in this day.
This year a maximum price of 4 euros has been set for rice and fideuà tapas and a maximum price of 7 euros for the rest. The event will once again count on the participation of the Fishermen's Guild, who will be offering three tapas to promote the Peix de Calpe: fideuà, fried white prawns and stewed squid. The Associació de Moros i Cristians Santíssim Crist de la Suor (Association of Moors and Christians Santíssim Crist de la Suor) will also be selling beer, soft drinks and water for the benefit of this year's captains.
Alongside all this, there will be parallel activities such as musical performances, book signings, wine tasting, mojito workshops, cocktail tasting, zumba exhibitions, urban dance, etc. There will also be children's games every day and a circus show at the opening of the fair on Thursday 9 May at 7pm.
In addition to the musical performances offered by local associations and schools, there will be a concert by ‘Los Inhumanos’ on Saturday 11 at 22.30 and a tribute to Abba on Sunday 12 at 20:00.
On the other hand, on the occasion of the centenary of the Fishermen's Guild, Calpe Town Hall, with the collaboration of the Guild, will distribute free copies of the story ‘The adventures of Delfo, Lucia and Sebas in Calpe’, by Marina Belliure and Paco Catalá, which aims to raise awareness among children about the importance of fishing and keeping the seas free of plastics.
On Sunday 12th there will be a solidarity haircut. Those interested can get their hair cut from 11 am, at a price of 10 € and the proceeds will be donated to the association Alicante para la Lucha contra el Cáncer sede Calpe.
Also, a workshop on healthy habits will be held by the Domus Vi residence on Thursday (from 19 to 20 h), Friday and Saturday (from 12 to 13 h).
2nd White Prawn Tapa Competition
In addition, the second edition of the White Prawn Tapa Competition will be held on Sunday 12 May and, like last year, the best tapa will be chosen by popular vote. This year nine restaurants will be taking part and the tapas will be available for tasting from 12 noon on Sunday. Among all the people who take part in the voting, three 20 euro vouchers will be drawn to buy at the fish market of the Fishermen's Guild of Calpe.
