Calpe joins the "Kilometres for Memory" initiative to collect donations against Alzheimer's disease.
The city of Calpe has decided to join the initiative of the Fundación Domus Vi "Kilómetros para recordar" ("Kilometres for Memory"). The aim is to raise funds for research and prevention of this disease.
This Sunday the sixth edition of the Volta al Penyal d'Ifac took place in Calpe with more than 750 swimmers from all over Spain and abroad.
Carlos Cuesta in the men's category and Andrea Smycek in the women's category were the absolute winners of a race in which the participants had to cover a distance of 3,600 metres between Cala del Racó and Playa de la Fossa on the border with the Penyal.
The city of Calpe held a meeting with ONCE (Spanish Organisation for the Blind) to analyse possible cooperation to help people with disabilities. Ana Salas, Mayor of Calpe, and Estela Medina, Area Manager of the ONCE in Alicante, were present. Iván Prieto, head of the organisation in Benidorm, and Sergio Barrera, 2er. Chairman of the ONCE in the Comunidad Valenciana.
Aguas de Calpe will start repairing the drinking water pipes in Pioco - Terrasala next Monday, 23 September.
The work consists of laying 1,243 metres of new pipes with three junctions to the existing networks, which will allow 741 metres of obsolete pipes to be taken out of service. This will improve the efficiency of the municipal drinking water supply network and minimise the risk of breakdowns.

La Casa Nova became the headquarters of the University of Alicante and was presented at a ceremony at the Casa Nova, chaired by Manuel Palomar, Rector of the University of Alicante, Ana Sala, Mayor of Calp, Rebeca Merchán, Education Councillor, and Josep Ivars, Director of the new University Centre.
ONG Visió Sense Fronteres, located in Calpe, celebrates its 20th anniversary. On Saturday the 21st, the association celebrates the day with a tribute to all those who have cooperated with the NGO during these years.
750 swimmers will participate in the Travesía a Nado-VI Volta al Penyal d' Ifac on Sunday. The competition is organized by the Real Club Náutico de Calpe together with the city of Calpe. The course measures 3,600 metres and starts at Playa del Racó beach to circle the rock and reach the finish on La Fossa beach.
The number of participants has been increased by 200, making it one of the most important swimming competitions in the Valencia region. 150 volunteers will take part in the organisation of the competition.
