A total of 350 leading UK travel agents are visiting Calpe this week to attend the annual meeting of the UK company Jet2com, the country's second largest tour operator. The choice of Calpe as the venue for this meeting will enable participants to experience the various tourist attractions in the community, making it an unprecedented event to promote tourism in Calpe.
Today, 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, members of the City Council, city employees and dozens of citizens gathered in Miguel Roselló Square to demonstrate their aversion to gender-based violence.
The Mayor of Calpe, Ana Sala, presented Miguel Pastor, President of the Unió Musical Calp-Ifach, with the keys to the cultural centre of the Calpe music group on the day of Saint Santa Cecilia, the patron saint of music. This is the culmination of a long process through which the group will enjoy its own opportunities to develop its work. The keys were handed over during the group's concert and on Saturday the musicians and directors of the institution were able to visit the premises of the "Casa de la Música" and test the rehearsal room.
Calpe City Council has launched this week a new Citizen Information Service with WhatsApp and Telegram.
The aim of this initiative is to provide citizens with information of interest quickly and easily. These two instant messaging channels will provide information on assistance deadlines, implementation of new initiatives, municipalities, schedules, etc.
Both channels be helpful in emergency situations, as they allow citizens to be warned of road closures, heavy rainfall or school closures, to name but a few examples of recent disasters that have occurred in the region.
Ecovidrio, the non-profit organisation responsible for the recycling of glass containers in Spain, has awarded the municipality of Calpe for its good results in the selective collection of glass containers during the summer months.
This year, 2019, 431,170 kilograms of glass were collected, 3% more than last year, demonstrating citizens' commitment to sustainability and recycling.

The City Council offers a special service for the transport of cut remains from private individuals.
In recent weeks, the Calpe City Council has noted an uncontrolled increase in the number of cuttings in the municipality, so that the city has made possible a specific service for the collection of cuttings and their subsequent transfer to the Campello wastewater treatment plant, to which Calpe belongs according to the zonal waste plan.
Calpe begins this Thursday its 25th International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women with a cycle of short films. At the Saló Blau, six short films on male violence will be shown from 8 p.m. onwards: "El paraguas de colores", "Celebraciones", "Hogar, hogar", "El beso del astronauta", "Mamas y papas" and "Por la flor de la canela", all from "CortoEspaña".
